Why Averixo exists, what it values, and who does the work.
Origin
How this started
Averixo grew out of years spent editing other people's copy in newsrooms that no longer exist in the same form. When many of those reporters went independent, the editing didn't follow them — the fact-checking desk, the numbers person, the second read before publication all disappeared at once.
We started offering claim audits informally, one article at a time, for reporters we already knew. The requests kept coming, so the informal arrangement became a small, deliberate practice.
We are not a newsroom and we don't claim to replace one. What we offer is narrower: a careful, honest look at whether a piece's claims hold up, and a standing point of contact for reporters who otherwise work entirely alone.

What guides the work

Plain findings
We describe what we find without softening it or dressing it up. A gap is noted as a gap, nothing more, nothing less.

Narrow scope
We do the work that was asked for and stop there. We don't rewrite your voice or push our own opinions into your reporting.

Steady pace
There's no benefit to rushing a review. We take the time the material needs and no less.
